We kicked off Free to Be Me with a celebratory lunch! The lunch included hamburgers, hot dogs, smoked sausages, spaghetti, baked beans, a variety of hot wings, watermelon and sodas. After lunch the young men watched movies and engaged in an NBA2K Tournament. Due to COVID-19, the young men were not able to have their annual basketball tournament.

Our Free to Be Me celebration was very refreshing. One young man displayed his personal talent by sharing with us a drawing. He does outstanding freestyle drawings. Although this young man has been in our facility before he stated, “I have learned my lesson. I believe that God brought me back here so that I can do things the right way. I am ready to learn how to be an adult. I believe that God brought me here to protect me”.

Our celebrations also included something for our staff! Our staff had a Hawaiian luau with party leis, balloons, punch, tropical punch bowl cake, hot wings, Rotel dip, Hawaiian bread, pulled pork, pineapples, watermelon, pineapple meatballs, chips and various sodas. Many of the staff wore their Hawaiian attire and leis.
