This month was full of fun activities for you youth here at Broward Youth Treatment Center. Ms. Mixon, Residential Case Manager, decided to play charades with the young men for the group activity of her Impact of Crime group! The title of the lesson was “Communicating and what interferes with communication”. Most think that communication is someone speaking about a specific subject, but what Ms. Mixon explained to the youth that effective communication includes both talking and listening.

For the activity the youth were split into teams, and each team had a representative to hold up a word on their foreheads while the other teammates had to explain to them what the word was without actually saying the word. After playing the game Ms. Mixon reiterated how effective communication is helpful and discussed with the youth what possibly interfered with their communication. Distractions come in many different forms and can make it complicated to communicate with someone.
