Intake

  • Intake referrals are reviewed for admission based on meeting criteria for the scope of services.
  • The average length of stay is 3-6 months for the intensive mental health units (36 beds) and 30-60 days for the sub acute psychiatric residential treatment center (20 beds).
  • All youth are given an opportunity to make telephone calls and mail correspondence to persons approved by the Department of Children's Services.
  • During the first 24 hours the youth is assessed by therapists, nurses and education staff and provided an orientation to their living dorms by youth counselors. The identified Mental Health personnel are on call 24 hours per day, seven (7) days per week in the event of a Mental Health Emergency.

 

 

Medical

  • Medical staff includes Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Social Worker, Therapist, Registered Nurses, and Licensed Practical Nurses with contract Psychiatrist, Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioners.
  • Medical Department is open sixteen (16) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
  • Youth are given a physical exam within the first fourteen (14) days of placement.
  • Roane Medical Center is used for emergency hospital services. Roane County Health Department is used for dental services.

 

 

Programs

  • Facility Director oversees all programs at the facility. The facility has a vast array of programs that focus on Mental Health Treatment, Art, Music, and Recreation Therapies and Education.
  • Youth receive groups daily, individual therapy weekly and as needed, and family therapy twice a month with birth and foster parents.
  • Treatment modality focuses on trauma-informed care along with more intense and specialized treatment for the sub acute unit.
  • Facility has faith-based services offered through a local church.
  • Education Department is staffed by a Principal, two (2) full-time regular education teachers, two (2) full-time special education teachers and two (2) teacher's aides.
  • Youth attend school the same number of hours as regular Roane County Schools.
  • Youth attend bi-weekly treatment team meetings that are facilitated by a licensed clinician.
  • A behavioral motivation system is used to help reward pro social behaviors and modify maladaptive behaviors.
  • Facility is required by contract to maintain a 1:5 ratio of staff to individuals, on first and second shifts and a 1:8 ratio on third shift.
  • Youth participate in TOPS (Teen Outreach Program), completing service learning projects that benefit the program and community.
  • Youth do volunteer work for Rockwood Police Department's Animal Shelter by feeding, walking, grooming, and caring for animal hygiene needs.
  • Upon discharge, youth will continue to receive services for a period of time determined by the continuum contract with Omni Community Health.
  • Youth participate in a daily structured activity schedule which tracks the activities completed by youth each hour, excluding sleeping hours.

 

Living Areas

  • Facility has three (3) living areas, multipurpose rooms, visitation rooms, sensory rooms, outdoor recreation space and a gym.
  • Youth are provided three (3) meals per day approved by a nutritionist and a snack. Special diets are provided as necessary.

Center for Success & Independence - Roane Academy

  • Facility is located at 503 Cardiff Valley Road, Rockwood, TN 37854.
  • Facility opened at its current location in 2014.
  • Academy is operated by Youth Opportunity Investments.
